The Wells Fargo Rewards Credit Card gives you a measly 1 point for each dollar spent, with no bonus categories. The best that points can get you is 1 cent per point. If I spent $5,000 I would have 5,000 points which is worth $50 statement credit to my credit card.
Doesn't sound too bad right? Well if I spent that same $5,000 on a Chase Ink Bold card on my cell phone bill, that would net me 25k points or a round trip from Los Angeles to Hawaii. Sounds much better right?
So why do I charge my cell phone bill to my Wells Fargo Credit card?
The Wells Fargo Credit card only mentions it in the fine print, but it covers cell phone damage, replacing a broken phone up to $600 with a deductible $25, up to 2 claims per a 2 month period. Basically if approved, you get $575 towards a new phone. The caveat is that you have to been paying the bill the month prior to the damage taking place. So naturally, I switched my bill payment to the Wells Fargo credit card, and reported the claim a couple months after it actually happened.
A phone call and a few emails later, I was approved for $600 towards a new Samsung S5. Once they receive an itemized receipt, they reimburse through a check in the mail. I even got to buy the phone with my Ink bold netting me another ~3k chase points in the process.
*Note: I bought the phone straight up, which was a total of $650 after taxes, The cheaper prices you see for phones are usually with a new plan or upgrade which extends your contract.
