Chase Sapphire Preferred card

Chase Sapphire Preferred

This is a damn sexy card, literally and figuratively. It's dark blue, has a non-embossed front and is much heavier then any other card to the point where ~20% (complete guesstimate) of cashiers will compliment the card (you just might be able to finally score that number of the cute cashier).

The current promo is a bonus 40k Ultimate Rewards points after spending $3,000 in three months. The benefits are so good that this card should become one of your go-to cards for all your purchases even if you have no requirements to meet.

Benefits
  • 2 points per dollar spent on dining and travel
  • 1:1 transfer to BA, UA, SW, Korean Air, Amtrack, Hyatt, Marriot, Priority Club, and Ritz-Carlton.
  • 7% dividends on miles earned in the year. This includes the bonus of 40k, so if you get the bonus you at least earn 43k points plus another 3010 points just from dividends.
  • NO foreign transaction fees. Great to use overseas after you've redeemed your award flights
  • $95 annual fee waived for first year
Similar with the SPG card this card allows your points to be more liquid and flexible. A big pro is that this is one of the few cards that offer no foreign transaction fees. Most cards charge about 3% for foreign transactions. If you were to spend $1k on a vacation overseas, that's 30 dollars saved! Or in terms that I like to think of: 20 Chang Thai beers!

Remember, this card also offers price protection, rental car insurance, travel insurance but usually require extra work to file a claim. Please read their terms and conditions as they may have changed since I have last applied for the card.
