Goal oriented miles earning

Once you accumulate enough miles you can redeem them for domestic trips, or the international trip for your dreams. A good hint is to have a goal in mind then finding what programs/miles club allows you to get there the cheapest way.

Personally I have grown more fond of traveling to Asia and therefore have accumulated more miles with partners in the One World Alliance. I can use partner miles to book awards on Cathay Pacific based out of Hong Kong which has great flight and seat availability to popular destinations in Asia, not to mention one of the best first class cabins in the world.

Another example, you want to go to Europe with your partner, so you find that BA is having a great promotion with a credit card. BA has great availability to the places you want to go. So you signed up for that card to help you achieve the trip of your dreams.

The point here is that you should not just sign up for all the big promotions for the sake of accumulating points, but to acquire miles with at least a general goal in mind. That way, it will direct you on what airlines miles to save and what promotions to take advantage of.
